About Recent Events in Mexico

I understand you’ve been following the recent news regarding the travel advisory for Mexico. It’s completely natural to have questions, and since your safety is our #1 priority, I wanted to provide some important context from our perspective here on the ground.

Geography matters! It is important to remember that Mexico is a massive country. The recent advisories often focus on areas in the state of Jalisco on the West Coast. We are located in Quintana Roo on the East Coast. These regions are over 1,000 miles apart— Events on the Pacific coast do not impact the daily life and safety of our Caribbean community.

Understanding the U.S. State Department Advice: The official U.S. Travel Advisory for Quintana Roo remains at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. It is important to note that this is the same rating currently given to countries like the UK, Italy, and France. The advisory suggests being aware of your surroundings but does not recommend against traveling here.

Real-time Local Feedback: You don’t have to take our word for it. There is a large community of U.S. expats living here full-time who are currently sharing their experiences. You can see their comments and how they are reassuring other travelers in the Expats in Playa Facebook Group.

We are fully prepared for your visit and are confident you will have a safe, relaxing stay. If you’d like to have a quick call to discuss any specific concerns, I’m happy to chat.

Best regards,

A. Salazar
